Iemand van american-politics.com heeft de originele tekst van het programma overgetypt. Daardoor bleek dat ondermeer deze uitspraak van Flynt werd verwijderd uit het CNN-transcript: 'And we've found out in the early 1970s, he was involved in an abortion in Texas -- and I just think that it's sad that the mainstream media, who's [sic] aware of this story, won't ask him that question, when they were able to ask him the drug question without any proof at all -- and we've got all kinds of proof on this issue.'
Later zou zelfs het geredigeerde transcript in zijn geheel zijn verwijderd. In de lijst met transcripts van Crossfire staat inderdaad de tekst van de uitzending van 20 oktober niet vermeld.

Uit het boek Fortunate Son komen de volgende twee citaten.

De citaten staan hier. Daar staat ook hoe internettijdschrift Salon met grote interesse het boek behandelt: Een citaat: 'Hatfield [de schrijver van het boek Fortunate Son, die inmiddels zelfmoord heeft gepleegd; volgens de uitgever vanwege 'grote druk'] quotes a former Yale classmate who told him: "George W. was arrested for possession of cocaine in 1972, but due to his father's connections, the entire record was expunged by a state judge whom the older Bush helped get elected. It was one of those 'behind closed doors in the judges' chambers' kind of thing between the old man and one of his Texas cronies who owed him a favor ... There's only a handful of us that know the truth."

Een paar dagen later neemt Salon alles terug  en gaat ook Slate journalist Jacob Weisberg over tot de aanval. Inmiddels heeft ook de uitgever het boek teruggetrokken want het blijkt dat schrijver Hatfield een 'convicted fellon' is geweest. Het boek wordt later opnieuw uitgegeven door Nick Mamatas van Soft Skull Press. Mamatas schrijft 'Under heavy fire from the media, the former publisher, St. Martins Press, panicked. But as Jenny Lyn Bader pointed out in the New York Times, "If he's merely a convicted fellon, that doesn't preclude him from being a succesful writer. Indeed, St. Martin's Press underestimates the forgiveness of the American people. People might not mind a former convict writing a book as long as it is really good".'

In een brief aan Salon probeert Mamatas een en ander uit te leggen. De brief wordt gepubliceerd, maar een belangrijk stuk wordt uit de brief geknipt: '"I myself am not convinved that the cocaine arrest story is accurate, but it is worth noting that the mainstream media did little to examine the story. I have frequently read that scores of journalists have scoured Texas for evidence of Hatfield's three anonymous sources, but you know what? Not one of them ever contacted me, even though I am the Senior Editor at Soft Skull Press, co-wrote the introduction of the Soft Skull Press edition of Fortunate Son and am in a position to know the identity of the sources. [...]'

Vandaag in het nieuws allerlei gedoe over een dronken rit van Bush. Het licht een klein tipje op van de sluier die Bush bedekt: 'George W. Bush confirmed last night that he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Maine 24 years ago' [...] Bush and his aides suggested that the timing might be politically motivated. During his brief appearance last night, Bush repeatedly questioned the timing of the news report. "Why now, days before an election? he said. At another point he said, "I've got my suspicions".' MSNBC schrijft: 'The campaign of Democratic nominee Al Gore vehemently denied it had anything to do with leaking the news and refused any further comment.'

Ook veel nieuws over de andere presidentskandidaat. Ondermeer in een ongegeneerd positief interview met Al -you can call me Al- Gore, in tijdschrift Rolling Stone, deze week ook afgedrukt in het Belgische weekblad HUMO. Hij wordt hard onder handen genomen: 'Wat is het leukste aan de campagne? Wat doet u om tijdens de campagne te ontspannen? Wat is uw topvijf [films] van het afgelopen jaar? Zijn de Beatles uw lievelingsgroep? Weet u over álles zoveel?'
