Eén ding staat inmiddels vast: we krijgen weer een lid van het geheime genootschap Skull & Bones aan het bewind in de VS, na de komende presidentsverkiezingen: 'Kerry scores a knockout on ‘Super Tuesday’. Volgens het genootschap is het een 'win-win situation', zei schrijfster Alexandra Robbins recentelijk in Nova. 'Of je nou door de Skull of door de Bones wordt gebeten...', concludeert Nova-presentatrice Clairy Polak afsluitend met veel gevoel voor inhoud, maar met weinig gevoel voor vorm. Maar hij glimlacht toch leuk, die Kerry, zelfs als hij tegen de regels van de democratie in zegt dat hij over Bones geen uitspraken mag doen. Misschien is het toch een goeie vent, betekent zijn lid-zijn van Skull & Bones dit keer geen leugen en bedrog, is de VS toch geen één-partijstaat en zou het goed zijn om de politiek in stand te houden door te gaan stemmen.

Kerry begint goed: '"I have a message for the influence peddlers, for the polluters, the HMOs, the big drug companies that get in the way, the big oil and the special interests who now call the White House their home," he told a campaign rally. "We're coming, you're going, and don't let the door hit you on the way out". Eindelijk eens een man van het volk die het opneemt tegen het gecorrumpeerde Big Government! Onderzoeksjournalist Michael Isikoff denkt daar anders over en geeft zijn Newsweek-artikel de veelzeggende kop mee 'Cash and Kerry'. Hij geeft drie staaltjes van Kerry-hypocrisie. Daarna struikelden we over nog meer voorbeelden, waarvan we er drie hebben genoteerd.

Voorbeeld 1
'[...] the senator in 2001 formed a fund-raising group called the Citizen Soldier Fund, which brought in more than $1.2 million in unregulated "soft money." Kerry pledged he would limit individual donations to $10,000. But in late 2002, just before new federal laws banning soft money took effect, Kerry quietly lifted the ceiling and took all the cash he could get. In the month before the election, the fund raised nearly $879,000—including $27,500 from wireless telecom firms such as T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon. That same month, Kerry cosponsored a bill to overturn a judge's ruling and permit the wireless firms to bid on billions of dollars' worth of wireless airwaves. Kerry aide Cutter says it's a "stretch" to draw any connection between the two events.'

'Over the years, reports the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity, Kerry has raised more than $30 million for his Senate campaigns. A good portion has come from industries with an interest in the committees on which Kerry has a seat—including more than $3 million from financial firms (Kerry serves on the Senate Finance Committee). Kerry insists he is meticulous about avoiding any conflicts. "If these interests are giving money in hopes of buying influence with the senator, well, they should save their money because it won't work," says Kerry spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter.'

Isikoff schrijft dat in 1996 zakenman Johnny Chung wordt uitnodigd door Kerry die geld nodig heeft voor een verkiezing. Chung neemt de Hongkongse zakenvrouw Liu Chaoying mee. Zij wil graag dat een van haar bedrijven een notering krijgt aan de beurs en Kerry zorgt dat ze de volgende dag al een persoonlijk gesprek heeft. Chung laat zijn dankbaarheid blijken door een fund-raiser te organiseren die Kerry $10.000 oplevert. 'Federal investigators later discovered that Liu was in fact a lieutenant colonel in China's People's Liberation Army and vice president of a Chinese-government-owned aerospace firm. And Chung, who visited the Clinton White House 49 times, went on to become a central figure in the foreign-money scandals of 1996. Chung eventually pleaded guilty to funneling $28,000 in illegal contributions to the campaigns of Bill Clinton and Kerry. According to bank records and Chung's congressional testimony, the contributions came out of $300,000 in overseas wire transfers sent on orders from the chief of Chinese military intelligence—and routed through a Hong Kong bank account controlled by Liu.'
Later zegt Kerry dat hij Chung nog nooit had gezien vóór de avond van de fund-raiser. 'But congressional documents obtained by NEWSWEEK seem to tell a different story. "Dear Johnny, It was a great pleasure to have met you last week," Kerry told Chung in a handwritten note dated July 31, 1996. "Barbara [a Kerry fund-raiser] told me of your willingness to help me with my campaign... It means a lot to have someone like you on my team as I face the toughest race of my career."'

Dezelfde spelers in het verkiezingsverhaal van Kerry komen ook weer terug bij de verkiezing van Bill Clinton: 'Defense contractors eager to sell technology to China poured millions of dollars into Clinton's campaign. In return, Clinton called off the dogs. Janet Reno and other counterintelligence officials stood down while Lockheed Martin, Hughes Electronics, Loral Space & Communications and other U.S. companies helped China modernize its nuclear strike force', zo staat te lezen in een artikel genaamd 'The Idiot's Guide to Chinagate'.

Voorbeeld 4
Het vierde voorbeeld staat in een artikel van de Washington Post: 'Sen. John F. Kerry (Mass.), the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, frequently calls companies and chief executives "Benedict Arnolds" if they move jobs and operations overseas to avoid paying U.S. taxes. But Kerry has accepted money and fundraising assistance from top executives at companies that fit the candidate's description of a notorious traitor of the American Revolution.

The Hill, ofwel 'The Newspaper for and about the U.S. Congress' schrijft: '[In] New Hampshire, he [Kerry] railed against the influence of lobbyists and pledged to shine light “on the secret deals in Washington.” But during his Senate career, Kerry has helped special interests, even against the apparent interests of his own constituents. This helped cement ties with lobbyists who donated thousands of dollars to his campaign.' Dus zelfs als het tegen de belangen indruist van zijn eigen kiezers is Kerry nog bereid zijn eigen carrière te bevorderen. In 1999 had Kerry liever dat de winst ging naar 'Draka Holdings NV, a Netherlands-based cable manufacturer', dan naar de Amerikaanse bedrijven die de opdracht hadden willen uitvoeren, waarvan er een was gevestigd in Kerry's staat Massachusetts.

Voorbeeld 6
Het zesde voorbeeld (en nu gaan we echt stoppen, anders wordt deze DaanSpeak weer veel te lang) staat in een artikel van de Detroit Free Press: 'In 2000, Kerry persuaded Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz., to back off legislation that would have required Massachusetts authorities to return to the federal government $150 million in insurance overpayments on the Big Dig, the huge highway and tunnel project in Boston. The federal money had been paid to AIG, an insurance firm whose employees have given Kerry $30,000 in contributions over the course of his career.'

De Washington Post kopt deze ochtend monter: 'Bush-Kerry race should be close - Polarized nation faces a clear choice'. Een heldere keuze tussen de ene Januskop en de andere, de keuze tussen het ene Boneslid en het andere. De winnaars en verliezers van de verkiezingen in november zijn nu al bekend. Winnaar is Skull & Bones die nu al juicht dat het een win-winsituatie is. Verliezers zijn alle kiezers en niet-kiezers in de VS en de rest van de wereld.
