Rolling Stone onthult documenten die bevestigen wat Seymour Hersh laatst al vertelde, dat kinderen werden verkracht in Abu Ghraib.

Onderzoeksjournalist Hersh onthulde de slachting tijdens de Vietnamoorlog in My Lai, onthulde dat oorlogsminister Rumsfeld toestemming had gegeven voor de martelmethouden in Abu Ghraib (zie voor beide onderwerpen deze DaanSpeak) en onthulde recent op een bijeenkomst van mensenrechtenorganisatie ACLU dat kinderen werden verkracht in Abu Ghraib. Hij had hiervan video's gezien: 'The women were passing messages saying "Please come and kill me, because of what's happened". Basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys/children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. The worst about all of them is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror it's going to come out.'

Zijn getuigenis wordt nu bevestigd door overheidsdocumenten waar Rolling Stone de hand op heeft weten te leggen. Het gaat om 'The secret files -- 106 "annexes" that the Defense Department withheld from the Taguba report last spring -- include nearly 6,000 pages of internal Army memos and e-mails, reports on prison riots and escapes, and sworn statements by soldiers, officers, private contractors and detainees. The files depict a prison in complete chaos'. Uit een van de documenten blijkt nogmaals dat de martelingen deel waren van het beleid. Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Miller die is aangesteld door Rumsfeld als baas van alle Iraakse gevangenissen schreef een rapport. 'A former Army intelligence officer tells Rolling Stone that the intent of Miller's report was clear to everyone involved: "It means treat the detainees like shit until they will sell their mother for a blanket, some food without bugs in it and some sleep."' De gevolgen bleven niet uit.

Voorbeelden van de martelingen
'In one sworn statement, Kasim Mehaddi Hilas, detainee number 151108, said he witnessed a translator referred to only as Abu Hamid raping a teenage boy. "I saw Abu Hamid, who was wearing the military uniform, putting his dick in the little kid's ass," Hilas testified. "The kid was hurting very bad." A female soldier took pictures of the rape, Hilas said.
During the Muslim holy period of Ramadan, Hilas saw Spc. Charles Graner Jr. and an unnamed "helper" tie a detainee to a bed around midnight. "They . . . inserted the phosphoric light in his ass, and he was yelling for God's help," the prisoner testified. Again, the same female soldier photographed the torture.
Another prisoner, Abd Alwhab Youss, was punished after guards accused him of plotting to attack an MP with a broken toothbrush. Guards took Youss into a closed room, poured cold water on him, pushed his head into urine and beat him with a broom. Then the guards "pressed my ass with a broom and spit on it," Youss said.

In het artikel staan nog meer getuigenissen van martelingen: een man wordt geschopt en geslagen met een stoel tot hij flauwvalt; een man wordt gehandboeid uit een auto gegooid; een man moet blaffen als een hond en wordt zo vaak en hard geslagen dat hij flauwvalt, later urineert een politieman op hem en wordt een wapenstok anaal ingebracht: 'And the two American girls that were there when they were beating me, they were hitting me with a ball made of sponge on my dick. And when I was tied up in my room, one of the girls, with blond hair, she is white, she was playing with my dick. I saw inside this facility a lot of punishment just like what they did to me and more. And they were taking pictures of me during all these instances."'
